Rules and Entry Form for: The Newport Yacht Club Endowment Fund Rubber Ducky Regatta  August 28, 2010

The 6th Annual, Rubber Ducky Race, the NYC Endowment Fund’s fundraiser will be held on August 28, 2010 rain or shine. There will be a skippers meeting at 11:00 a.m. with all dinghies, inflatable, rubber rafts and other small-motorized or sail craft are called to the starting line at high noon.  Costumes and craft decoration are highly encouraged but not required. The theme is Holidays and at least one of the crew should be wearing a bathing suit and bring a towel.

There will be food, beverages and games as well as an awards ceremony after the race.

The object of the regatta is to make five stops around the harbor picking up prize coupons, special award certificates, and playing cards. These treasure items will be used to build a treasure purse for prizes, gifts and goodies at the grand finale party.  The regatta is not a race but a timed log event thus speed is not of utmost importance, collecting goodies at the various stops makes the game fun. A $20.00 donation per boat is requested.

We ask that all participating vessels be smaller than 14 ft. and if larger only participate as safety keepers around the harbor because they would be unable to navigate into the low water and congested areas that the smaller vessel will be asked to encounter.

All boats need to comply with prudent safety regulations by having all crew wear life jackets, have bailers, whistles and other small boat related documentation as required by state or federal authorities. All boats should follow manufacturers instructions as to the capacity of the vessel.

As this is not a race of speed but of predicted time or coming in closest to the total average time of all competitors. Please do not think that big motors will help, they won’t.

We ask that all teams not use water cannons, guns or balloons as this has caused cancellation of other similar regattas. We know its fun but it can and usually does get out of hand. Dunking at the dock after the race will be allowed so long as none of the officials are wetted in the exercise.

Contestants will pull into the various stations shown on their maps to collect one playing card and making donations for additional cards. Each boat  must show their boat number and verify that it has been listed by the station attendant. They may be asked by the station judge to complete some action and until that action is taken the craft may not depart for the next destination and if caught will be assessed penalties at the closing ceremonies such as having to help cook the burgers and dogs, or help the clean up crews.

Competitors will be allowed to make extra donations throughout the regatta to obtain additional playing cards (one extra per stop) minimum donation will be $ 5.00 per station.

The station judges will vote upon the most enthusiastic team, the best costuming, and at the end of the regatta award the “Warbler Ducky” award for the year. This years Chair will judge the Jean Babcock  Spectacular Hat Award and the Not-So-Good Hat awards and other awards to be presented at the finish line party.

After the regatta the Fund Trustees welcome all contestants to refreshments on the lower deck of the yacht club. Hot dogs and burgers will be available along with several choices of beverage. This will be followed with an Awards Ceremony and thanks from the Trustees of the NYCEF.

I do hereby release the Newport Yacht Club and The Newport Yacht Club Endowment Fund and any or all of its officers, members, and employees from any liability and/or damage claims that may accrue in my favor against them growing out of or as a result of this regatta. I assume all risk of injury and damage to person and property whether caused by negligence or otherwise.
